O’Kelley Legends

Books by Jordan O’Kelley

“O’Kelley Legendary Legends of Legend:  Or How I Got Out of Homework in 4th Grade” is a collection of funny, sweet, slightly embellished stories of family life, from the perspective of a 10 year old boy on the autistic spectrum.

When he was in fourth grade, Jordan O’Kelley hated doing weekly handwritten homework assignments because of dysgraphia, which made handwriting painful for him.  To get out of doing homework, Jordan made a deal with his teacher that he would write a book on his computer, instead.

“O’Kelley Legendary Legends of Legend” is an example of embracing a student’s strengths and intrinsic motivation to address the monotony of homework for a twice exceptional (gifted, but disabled) student.  As Jordan said… “If you have a kid that hates homework, maybe give them a break and let them write something that they want to write about instead.  It worked for me!”

“O’Kelley Legends Monologues:  Or How I Got Out of Homework in the 8th Grade” is a book of monologues adapted from “O’Kelley Legendary Legends of Legend.”  The monologues can be performed by elementary and middle school students, in drama class, as a school play, or as a community fundraiser.

“O’Kelley Legends Monologues” was first performed as a read-through benefit for SENG (Supporting the Emotional Needs of the Gifted) using only a microphone and a music stand, so that the students did not have to memorize their monologues.  You can listen to a podcast of this performance here:

Jordan hopes these monologues will help get the word out about what it’s like to be twice exceptional, or 2e.
